This is my first day, and my first week doing my CAS. I chose bowling for my first CAS, since it was the easiest for me to do. I did my regular practice at the Artha Gading Bowling Center, Mall Artha Gading, North Jakarta. The bowling alley here is really nice.
First up, I get to know the coach better in person. We chatted along about my interest in bowling, and how I might use bowling as a future use. As we know each other better, now we moved on to the real thing. Djoni Hanura, the coach, taught me all the basics to bowling. It seemed easy, but it wasn’t easy as it looked liked. The theory to it was rather long and boring. I couldn’t help but to listen to him, in order for me to do well later.
Enough with the theory and listening, now moving on to practice. First thing, all I had to do was finding the right ball and shoes for me. I chose the 15 lbs ball and size 9 for my shoes. I put on my shoes, grabbed the ball, and stand on the approach lane. The approach lane is the place or lane where you take your aim to hit the pins. I stand on the very edge of the foul line; a line where I couldn’t afford to stepped on. If I stepped on the foul line, I won’t get a point. Moving back to where I stand, now I bent my down with only my left leg on the front, and right leg on the back. Left arm straight in midair, and right arm keeps on swinging the ball.
This position is full of suffering I tell you. With only your left leg supporting your whole body plus the 15 lbs ball you hold with your right arm, it is hell. I had to do this for at least 15 minutes, and keep on swinging the ball. After I feel like throwing the ball, I rolled it over. This process continues all night.
The purpose of this position and practice is so that I can be accustomed to that position. That position is crucial in bowling, said the coach. If I don’t have the basic position and keep that position, I will not be able to hit the pins in front of me very well. My chance of hitting a miss is quite big. And so, this is what I do for my first night of bowling.
More or less, this is what I had to do back then:
